My First Scout Camp
March 1999, Sylvan Lake, Alberta

There's a LOT of pictures here, so it takes a little while to load. Sorry, but I really wanted to share them all with you! Thanks to Scouter Paul who took pictures with his digital camera and to Scouter Dave who sent us the scans of his pictures.

Me (on the right in the white hat) learning about lashing.

The long black tube in the background is the boilder used to soften the wood for the snowshoes

This shows the leaders taking the strips of Ash out of the boiler.

Here's another picture of the boiler--It's a hot and messy job!

When the wood comes out of the boiler, it is wrapped around the frame to form a snowshoe frame really fast before it gets hard again and snaps!

This is my Mom using the router to cut out part of the frame before the wood is bent.

This is my mom again. She's marking the pieces or Ash to be shaved down.

This is the leaders making sure that the frame is nice and tight

Here's some of the other Scouts removing the snowshoe frame from the frame used to shape it.

These are the frames. Now we have to lace them.

Here, we're learning how to safely light a camp stove.
(That's me again in the gray jacket and purple shirt in the middle of the picture)

Even though there was a lot of snow on the ground, it was really hot!

These are all the Scout Cars getting ready to race. Mine is the black box on the upper left. I made it to look like a radio.

This is a good shot of what the cars look like after we put the rocket engines in them.

Here are two cars racing

Two more cars racing.

These two cars did not go very far!

This one is actually off the ground!

This one looks like it wants to fly!

It looks like this WHOLE car is on fire, but it's not.

Here's a great shot of the blue sky and the snow! Notice the snow melting on the roof. Most of us went home with sunburns.

These are some of the cabins that we stayed in.
